National Guard Service and the Post-9/11 GI Bill

Effective October 1, 2011, Active Service performed by National Guard members under title 32 U.S.C. orders for the purpose of:

  • organizing
  • administering
  • recruiting
  • instructing
  • training or
  • service under section 502(f) for the purpose of responding to a national emergency

now qualifies members for the Post-9/11 GI Bill. Service performed on or after September 11, 2001 may be considered qualifying service.

This means many members may now qualify for the Post-9/11 GI Bill or qualify for an increase to their current benefit amount.
